Rider Skill Levels

Level 1: Rider is familiar with the motorcycle and can ride tarmac mountain roads. May hesitate slightly taking the motorcycle off the tarmac onto the dirt shoulder, but will manage to control ‘change of surface’ though at a slower speed. Can manage dirt roads, but at a slower pace, but may need guidance on steep ascents and descent, especially when wet.

Level 2: Rider has no problem-handling tarmac and dirt roads with a fair degree of competence. May not be so comfortable on a wet dirt road especially if the path is narrow. Has a fairly good idea of changing from a ‘Road Riding’ style to an ‘Off Road’ style as soon as the surface changes. May get uneasy if on a steep descent with ‘gravel like marbles’ or on a steep ascent with those loose shale!

Level 3: Rider knows his motorcycle and the motorcycle knows him. He is completely at ease on tarmac and largely on dirt. Can do water crossing, slush, ruts and steep climbs as a challenge. Managing tight corners on steep ascents or descents is not heart stopping. Also, is familiar with few advanced techniques.
